IMPORTANT INFORMATION
New Childcare Employment and Training Support Scheme

Closing Date For Receipt of Application Friday 18th June 2010.


The Office of the Minster for Children & Youth Affairs announced the introduction of a payments for qualifying FÁS and VEC trainees into one capitation system providing free childcare places. The scheme will be open to commercial and community day-care services which are participating in the Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) and/or the Community Childcare Subvention (CCS), as well as after-school services for primary school children which are in the CCS.
All services participating in the CCSS and ECCE Schemes have received a letter and application form from the OMCYA giving details of the scheme and inviting them to apply to participate if they wish. 


Is my service eligible to join the Scheme?
In order to be eligible services must be participating in ECCE and or the CCS in September 2010.


What does the Scheme mean to your Service?
Participating services must agree to use grant funding received under the scheme to reserve and provide free childcare places to children of qualifying parents in return for the capitation grant paid by the OMCYA.  These places will be made available to children of qualifying parents who are attending a FÁS training course or an educational programme administered by a Vocational Educational Committee (VEC)

Capitation Rate
Participating services will be paid a weekly capitation fee for each place reserved
€170 for a full-day service (at least 10 hours)
€95 for a half-day service (at least 5 and a half hours)
€50 for an after school service (at least 3 hours)

Please complete the Application Form (received from the OMCYA) and return it to South Dublin County Childcare Committee by Friday 18th June 2010

The Hanen Centre - You Make The Difference® 3-Day Licensing Workshop

Dates:

Thursday 22nd July 8:45am - 4:45pm,

Friday 23rd July 9.00am - 4.45pm

Saturday 24th July 9am - 4.30pm

Location: Stewarts Hospital,

This 3-Day Licensing Workshop is for Family Support Professionals who provide general parent education/prevention programming to families.

The programme is a preventative approach to language and communication development for children 0-5 years who are typically developing or at risk due to social or environmental challenges.

To join this programme

  • Participants must have a minimum of two years experience working with parents and children, post secondary training in Early Childhood Education, Public/Community Nursing, Social Work, or a related field.

After the workshop:

  • Lead the program under license
  • Increased awareness of how to support typically developing children age 0-5 years
  • Principles adult learning/group work
  • How to facilitate and evaluate workshops
  • Principles of Supportive Coaching
  • Strength based approach to support parents learning and skill development
  • Increased awareness of social and language development concerns

Training Cost: €430

Buntús Start Programme  – offer to Preschools

Buntús Start is an Irish Sports Council activity programme for preschools (children aged 2-5 years).
Currently over 40 preschools in South Dublin County are on the programme which provides equipment and training to the value of over €500 for the centre leaders.
South Dublin County Sports Partnership is looking to bring another 30 centres onto the programme this year and is inviting applications for such.
The cost for the equipment and training is €150 per centre. If you would like to avail of this please contact the Audrey Grainger in the Sports Partnership office Tel. 01 4149000 ext 2678 or email for an expression of interest form.

Benefits:
It has been designed for use in pre-school settings so that pre-school and playgroup leaders can provide a wide range of learning opportunities for young children to develop their fundamental motor skills, manipulative skills, co-ordination and balancing skills and develop a positive attitude to physical activity.
Buntús Start helps adults working with children to establish positive attitudes to activity and a healthy lifestyle through enjoyable activity with children. It offers a wealth of physical learning opportunities to enable children realise their potential and to become active and independent learners through play.
